The Cooperative Extension Service’s Yukon-Kuskokwim District office is based in Bethel, Alaska. Bethel is the regional service hub for a large and diverse area. The surrounding region is populated by many smaller, predominately Alaska Native, communities. Disconnected from the road system, travel is primarily accomplished by means of small aircraft, boat, snow machine or ice-road. Subsistence activities, such as hunting and fishing, are commonplace. The Yukon-Kuskokwim District office aims to support the population through education and outreach relevant to the local lifestyle.

The district staff is involved in many program areas and activities which support improvement in the quality of life for the population. Some of these areas include: the Bethel Community Garden, 4-H youth development, food preservation workshops, Healthy Homes, nutrition education provided through the Alaska Nutrition Education Program (ANEP), home energy education, StrongWomen and more!
