LARS to host Sept. 7 event for local residents

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Large Animal Research Station will close out the summer tour season with a special event for local residents on Saturday, Sept. 7. The event will include tours and a sale in the gift shop, with everything discounted 15%. Read more on the event, including admission info.

Sixteen early-career scientists and professionals were selected for the 2024-2025 Alaska Sea Grant State Fellowship. These Fellows will start this summer and fall, working around the state in support of Alaska's coastal communities and marine resources. Read more on those selected for the fellowship.

Travel to Kodiak, earn 10K in seed funding

Join us for an information session on Sept. 6 from 1-2 p.m. about an exciting all-day ideation studio in Kodiak on Nov. 1. During this ideation studio you will be collaborating with mariculture industry partners to tackle complex challenges through interdisciplinary problem-solving. An Introduction to Mindfulness

Join Robyn Henry, professor of Rural Human Services, for a short course on mindfulness, with applications to our work in higher education. In four, 1-hour sessions beginning Sept. 11, Henry will work with participants to explore the connection between their thoughts and emotions and how they can use the present moment and their compassion for others to create peace during turbulent times. September training: Cybersecurity

As part of the phased, enterprise-wide Security Awareness effort launched in 2023, UA HR Talent Acquisition and Development team is supporting UA Office of Information Technology's effort to make all faculty and staff aware of the annual, mandatory requirement for Security Awareness Training. The deadline for this training is Oct. 31, 2024. Learn more and get links for the training as well as other optional cybersecurity training available online.

Nanooks for Hope: Suicide Prevention Month events

September is Suicide Prevention Month. In addition to UAF's ongoing prevention and wellness efforts, ORCA POD is hosting a special campaign: Nanooks for Hope. Nanooks for Hope is a prevention campaign that focuses on inspiring hope and a sense of belonging within our community. Read more about events during the month.

Fairbanks Experiment Farm, Georgeson staff begin weeding out chokecherries

On Monday, another step was taken in the long process of weeding out popular but invasive chokecherry trees on the University of Alaska Fairbanks Troth Yeddha' Campus. Seven chokecherry trees (Prunus padus and Prunus virginiana) were removed from Georgeson Botanical Garden and the Fairbanks Experiment Farm, including a tree planted in 1993 in honor of Arbor Day. AY2024/25 headshot photo schedule

For those who need a headshot photo, UAF's photo day will be Sept. 11 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Wood Center multilevel lounge (indoor only). If you are unavailable on that date, individual appointments can be made the first Thursday of each month during the fall semester, and the third Thursday monthly during the spring semester.
