Friday Focus: Advancing UAF's strategic goals

Last week, Chancellor White hosted his 2024 convocation, which serves as a welcome back to our students, facility and staff at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. In his remarks, he mentioned several initiatives such as the Troth Yeddha' Indigenous Studies Center, a new arena to support UAF hockey and the Fairbanks community, and UAF's efforts to achieve designation as an R1 research university. Webinar: Mycelium-based biodegradable insulation

A University of Alaska Anchorage professor has developed a way to use cellulose-mycelium foams to replace plastics, which make up nearly half of marine debris. Philippe Amstislavski will present a free webinar, "Turning Off the Tap on Plastic Pollution with Mycelium Materials," at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25. The webinar is hosted by the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service. Register in advance to attend.


Workshop: Making connections in work and life

Perhaps you’re looking to create new friendships. Maybe you’re looking to deepen connections with colleagues, or you’re looking for a mentor in someone you admire. Each requires a degree of intentionality and knowing what you are looking for. This Oct. 17 training from 11 a.m. to noon by ComPsych - Guidance Resources will give practical tips on how to deepen relationships you already have and ways to step out of your routine to meet new people who can bring you a satisfying connection. A documentary about Dallas Seavey's historic sixth victory in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race will be screened on the University of Alaska Fairbanks Troth Yeddha' Campus at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20. Get tickets for the screening and more info.

April Jaillet has been appointed the new director of UAF Career Services, beginning Sept. 22. Jaillet holds two degrees from UAF (BM 2009, MA 2011). Career Services is located in the newly renovated space on the 6th floor of the Rasmuson Library. Learn more about the experience Jaillet brings to the role.
