Ocean glider opens new 'tool kit' in crab tracking efforts

A remotely piloted underwater glider is showing promise as a tool to track crabs in the Bering Sea, where their numbers have plummeted. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game and the University of Alaska Fairbanks have tested the glider Shackleton for the past three years to locate tagged crabs. Paul H. McCarthy Award accepting applications

Individual undergraduate and graduate students from all disciplines at the University of Alaska are eligible and invited to apply for an award of $2,500 to support their research using the Alaska and Polar Regions Collections and Archives at the Elmer E. UA Disability Services staff and faculty support webinar series

From fall 2024 through spring 2025, Disability Services offices across the state will continue offering free virtual training sessions on various essential topics to UA staff and faculty. Museum programs explore skulls in October

The University of Alaska Museum of the North is focusing on skulls during family programs in October. The programs are included with admission and are free for members. Learn more about the programs scheduled for Oct. 11 and 12.

Graduate research grants

Graduate students can request up to $45,000 (total direct costs) to undertake NASA-relevant research. Research topics can include biology studies, human impact, aeronautics, astrophysics, satellite payloads and more. Proposals are due by Dec. 1. Learn more and apply for grants.
