Prepare for the Great Alaska Shakeout on Oct. 17 at 10:17 a.m.

On Thursday, Oct. 17 at 10:17 a.m, Alaskans will come together for the Great Alaska ShakeOut, an annual statewide earthquake drill aimed at preparing Alaskans for real earthquake events. Earthquakes are a part of life in Alaska, with the state experiencing more seismic activity than any other in the U.S. The Great Alaska ShakeOut serves as a critical reminder to review and practice what to do when one occurs. Whether you're a lifelong Alaskan or new to the state, it's vital to know how to respond effectively and safely during an earthquake. Learn more about how to participate in the ShakeOut.

Food preservation, pesticides, pollinators highlight Kodiak Extension Week

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service is planning a week of workshops and webinars in Kodiak this month. Topics include managing, cultivating and preserving Kodiak's local food sources; livestock nutrition; attracting pollinators; using pesticides on invasive plants; and information about common garden pests. Discover UAF: Overview for remote employees

Outdoor Adventures trips still available

There are spots available on both Photograph the Aurora trips (Nov. 11 and Nov. 15) through Outdoor Adventures. There are also a handful of open spots for the White Mountain Cross Country Ski trip on Nov. 16. Learn more and register for trips.
