The deadline to UA faculty and students to apply for Alaska NSF EPSCoR Research Seed Grants is 5 p.m. Alaska time this Friday, Oct. 14. Faculty grants of up to $20,000 each will be awarded to University of Alaska scientists
to carry out research that supports project goals, and student grants of up to $4,000
each will be awarded for similar proposals from students.
The Alaska Center for Innovation, Commercialization, and Entrepreneurship seeks innovative
academics interested in making a direct impact with their research ventures and finding
solutions to today's challenges while building a stronger, more resilient Alaska.
The linked Center ICE request for proposals has recently opened for submissions, and all University of Alaska faculty, staff
and students are eligible. A webinar with more details on the proposal opportunity was held on Oct. 4. The Center
ICE YouTube channel is hosting the recorded webinar. Proposals are due by Monday, Oct. 17, 2022, at 8 a.m. Alaska Time.
Please join the Department of Equity and Compliance and NDAC for a training session
on Gender Inclusivity via Zoom on Oct. 19 from 1-2 p.m. This training will establish a baseline understanding of gender inclusivity within
the LGBTQIA2s+ community and how participants can become active allies on UAF campus.
UA Blackboard Learn is undergoing its periodic content storage management for all
three universities. Academic courses from summer 2019 and earlier are slated for removal
from UA Bb Learn on Oct. 28, 2022, and will no longer be accessible. This is routine
maintenance for UA Bb Learn and does not interfere with UAF’s switch to Canvas LMS
by summer 2024.
After a two-year hiatus, The Sun Star will relaunch on Oct. 21 at 5 p.m. The Sun Star
gives students the opportunity to get published and paid, and has engaged with Alaskan
news and culture for over 70 years. Come to the Student Media Office in the Wood Center to meet our staff and fellow student
writers, and to learn more about the paper! Food and drinks will be provided.
Residence Life is running an all ages Halloween carnival and "Truck or Treat" event
on Oct. 29 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Hess Recreation Center for the children of UAF
affiliates, and volunteers with cars are needed!The treats to hand out will be provided. Volunteers must be affiliated with the university. Please contact Lori Havard to volunteer.

Stop by the Student Health and Counseling table in the MBS between noon and 2 p.m.
on Friday, Oct. 14. to pick up some candy along with worksheets that will guide you
through emotion identification and emotion observation as we highlight the importance
of exploring your emotions, particularly during the winter months.
A six-week community health education workshop that focuses on people with diabetes
will get underway in Fairbanks on Friday, Oct. 14. The workshop will meet on Fridays from 5:30-8 p.m. from Oct. 14 to Nov. 18 in Room
108, University Park Building, 1000 University Ave., Fairbanks. The cost is $10. Register to attend.
The University of Alaska Museum of the North is exploring bats during hands-on programs
in October. Families are invited to drop in with children 5 and younger at Early Explorers on
Friday, Oct. 14, from 10 a.m.-noon. Junior Curators, designed for children 6 and older
with an adult, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 2-4 p.m.
UAF flu vaccine clinics
The UAF Student Health and Counseling Center will be hosting flu vaccine clinics for students, faculty and staff (to include partners
of faculty and staff). The first clinics will be held at the Akasofu Building on Oct. 19 and the Butrovich Building on Oct. 24, both events are from noon-2 p.m. Look for announcements of additional vaccine clinics around campus in the near future,
and join help us keep Nanook Nation healthy!
Nanook Sports
A panel discussion featuring vendors for nuclear microreactors will be held on Thursday,
Oct. 13, at 6 p.m. in the Fairbanks Pipeline Training Center, 3605 Cartwright Court,
building C. Panelists at the public event will share information about the technology and offer
insights about the potential market for nuclear microreactors in Alaska. A question-and-answer
session will follow after.
Registration is open for the UAF Fall Career Fair scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 3 from 11 a.m.
