NASA webinar and spring internships

Encourage students to apply for a NASA Internship for the Spring semester! They can learn more before the application deadline of Nov. 7. On Nov. 2 from noon to 1:30 p.m., a NASA informational webinar will go over writing a federal resume and how to apply for NASA internships. An in-person viewing will also happen that day and time in Duckering 353.


UAF Fall Career Fair

Registration is open for the UAF Fall Career Fair scheduled for Nov. 3 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Wood Center. Whether you are a first year student exploring, a senior looking for a job or alumni with a secured position, the Fall Career Fair is for you! There will be over 65 employers to connect with at this event. Contact Nicole Goff at 907-474-7596 for questions.


UAF to host Three Minute Thesis graduate student competition

The Graduate School will host its second annual Three Minute Thesis competition on Nov. 3, at 4 p.m. in the Schaible Auditorium. The event will also be available online via Zoom and live on the UAF Facebook page.

Join the UAF Student Leadership and Involvement Center and First-Gen AK for a Leadership Lunch with Richard Taylor Jr. This leadership lunch is open to any UAF student interested in leadership or involved in a student club. Free lunch will be offered and represented student clubs will be entered for a drawing for $100 in club funds (three winners will be drawn). Students can RSVP. 


First-Gen pinning ceremony

The First-Gen AK team is thrilled to invite UAF First-Gen students and supporters to our inaugural First-Gen Pinning Ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 1-5:30 p.m. in the Regents' Great Hall. The Pinning Ceremony is a celebration to honor the resilience and dedication each first-generation college student demonstrates on their path to and through higher education. First-Gen students who would like to participate in the ceremony, can RSVP no later than Friday, Nov. 4. Visit the UAF First-Gen website for a complete list of first-gen events. A short, catered reception will follow the ceremony, and two $500 scholarships will be awarded.

URSA announces 2022 Mentor Awards

The Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarly Activity congratulates eight individuals who received a 2022 Mentor Award. URSA Mentor Awards open for applications every fall and provide funding of up to $6,000 to those mentoring undergraduate research and creative projects at UAF and affiliated campuses. Full-time UAF faculty members, postdoctoral researchers and graduate students from all disciplines and campuses are eligible to apply.

Academic Deadlines

  • Last day for student- and faculty-initiated withdrawals (W grade appears on academic transcript) (Nov. 4)

  • Begin spring 2023 priority registration (UAF degree students) (Nov. 14)

  • Thanksgiving break (no classes, most offices closed) (Nov. 23-27)

  • Begin spring 2023 open registration (all UAF, UAA and UAS students, including nondegree students (Nov. 28)

2022 Diwali Celebration

Diwali is a time of goodwill, generosity, and community. The word Diwali comes from the Sanskrit word Deepavali, meaning "rows of lighted lamps." UAF Namaste India invites everyone who is interested in celebrating this auspicious day with us! Doors open at the Wood Center Ballroom on Nov. 5 at 5:45 p.m., and tickets cost $25 for general admission; $20 for students; and free for children below the age of 6. We still have few tickets available; please contact any of the Namaste India volunteers reach out via email.


Museum to host military, veteran appreciation day

The University of Alaska Museum of the North will host a military and veterans appreciation day on Saturday, Nov. 5. Active-duty military, veterans and their families will get free admission to the museum.


Systemwide Town Hall with President Pat Pitney

All staff, students and faculty across the University of Alaska system are invited to a virtual Town Hall with UA President Pat Pitney on Tuesday, Nov. 8, from 1-2 p.m. via Zoom or by watching the livestream on the UA President’s communications page.


Graduate assistant pay increases

The University of Alaska Fairbanks is moving forward with the roll out of an increase in the minimum hourly stipend rate for graduate assistants (i.e., engagement, research and teaching assistants) based on the review and recommendation of the UAF Graduate School. These increases will become effective for the spring semester 2023. Applications closing soon for BLaST Spring 2023 URE funding

Applications are being accepted for the Biomedical Learning and Student Training Spring 2023 Undergraduate Research Experience until Nov. 6, 2022, at midnight. Current undergraduate students from Fort Lewis College, Salish Kootenai College, Diné College, Alaska Pacific University, Iḷisaġvik College, all UAS and UAF campuses, from all racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds are invited to apply. The BLaST URE award is up to $2,500 for Spring 2023. Information about requirements and a link to the online application can be found on the BLaST website.
