UAF's 101st commencement is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, at the Carlson Center. There will be one ceremony this year. Students who are expecting to walk this year, should apply to graduate by Feb. 1, 2023. Spring graduation applications received by the initial deadline will be entered to win a vintage diploma frame. After that date the fee rises to $80; March 1 is the final deadline. There will be a Q&A session at CTC from 4-6 p.m. on Jan. 26. 2023.

Past, Present and Future of Alaska Native Music

The UAF Department of Music's Circumpolar Music Series continues this semester with a presentation by guest scholar, Maria Shaa Tláa Williams. The presentation, "Past, Present and Future of Alaska Native Music" will take place on Jan. 26 from 1-2 p.m. in the Davis Concert Hall. Williams will showcase characteristics and developments of Alaskan Native musics in the past, present, and future. This event is free, open to the public, and is the final event of the 2022-2023 Circumpolar Music Series!


University Community Mental Health accepting new clients

Graduate-level counseling students are accepting new clients for free 50-minute in-person and telehealth counseling sessions to occur once per week now through April 27, 2023. Clinic hours are Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Contact the clinic at 907-474-1999 or at uaf-cmhc-hipaa@alaska.edu.

Student performance notifications thru Feb. 3

Instructors will be emailing performance feedback to students about concerns and hard work recognition through the UAF notifications system called Nanook Navigator between Jan. 20 and Feb. 3, and throughout the semester.


Apply for Toolik Field Station's 2023 early career TUNDRA award

Toolik Field Station invites students and early career researchers to apply for the Toolik Userdays for Naturally Developing Research Abilities, or TUNDRA, award for the 2023 field season. This award sponsors independent and original Arctic research projects with up to 10 days at Toolik Field Station. Toolik will provide award recipients with housing, meals, access to facilities and common-use equipment, science support, and transportation between Fairbanks and the field station. Applications are due Feb. 15, 2023.

BLaST celebrates January 2023 Scientist of the Month

Since 2016, the Biomedical Learning and Student Training (BLaST) program at UAF has highlighted scientists from all biomedical fields through its Scientist of the Month articles. BLaST Scholar and UAF wildlife biology undergraduate student Tirzah Bryant was selected as the January 2023 BLaST Scientist of the Month.

URSA Innovative Technology and Education Award applications open Feb. 6

URSA's Innovative Technology and Education Award application period opens on Feb. 6. The ITE Award funds up to $5,000 and is open to all UAF undergraduate, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, staff, and full-time faculty requiring technology-related equipment and/or software for student-based instruction and/or research.

The Nanook Diversity and Action Center Council is looking for students interested in creating inclusive programming and maintaining a campus culture of respect and belonging for all students. Students can fill out this Google form to sign up for the council.

Join Nanook Recreation when Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour brings the spirit of outdoor adventure to Fairbanks at the Davis Concert Hall. Doors open Sunday, Feb. 5 at 5:30 p.m. and the show starts at 6 p.m. The great hall will be open before the show, intermission, and after with a variety of local and state organizations to chat with. Join us for a pre-event party at the UAF Pub from 4-5:30 p.m. Tickets are available in advance ($12 student / $15 public) or at the door ($15 student / $20 public) at the Outdoor Adventures office, Wood Center, and Beaver Sports.
