Equipment checkout
Video and audio checkout
Bunnell 119
UAF Communication & Journalism provides our current students with a wide range of video and audio equipment for checkout. Students are provided regular access to state-of-the-art equipment to produce video news packages, record radio interviews, and capture documentary films along with other creative projects.
Checkout procedure
- Students seeking to check out departmental equipment for upcoming assignments should
drop by our offices in 119 Bunnell and speak with our student assistant, Dylan Palmieri.
When Dylan is unavailable for checkout, J. Jason Lazarus, our computer and darkroom
tech, can assist you in 114 Bunnell. Students are expected to provide their University
ID Card (Polar Express) and fill out an equipment agreement form prior to checking
out any gear.
- Students will be expected to return gear in the same working condition that it was
given to them. It is the student's responsibility to insure gear is in working order
when they check out the kit for liability reasons, but each piece of gear is thoroughly
tested by our staff after each individual check-in to insure students are receiving
fully functional gear.
- Loss or damage of Communication & Journalism equipment is the responsibility of the
student who checked out the equipment.
- Students are expected to return gear on time. Failure to do so will result in penalties,
beginning with loss of reservation privileges and concluding in the potential loss
of all checkout privileges.
- Checkout hours are dependent on staff on-hand, but equipment checkout is generally available 9-6:15pm on M/W/F (with a break between 3 & 3:30p), Tuesday from 12-5 and Thursday from 9-3. Our staff generally has other duties, so we always encourage you to schedule a pickup or dropoff with J. Jason Lazarus at jjlazarus@alaska.edu.
Reservations
Students may request equipment reservations for one week in advance of their equipment need. Please contact, via email, our department staff member, J. Jason Lazarus at jjlazarus@alaska.edu to arrange a reservation. Students must specifically denote which gear they need and it will be set aside for them, as long as supplies exist.
