Lorna Eder, collaborative pianist, joined the music faculty at the University of Alaska Fairbanks in January, 2011, coming from Los Angeles, California, where she lived and worked for over thirty years. She recently received a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Keyboard Collaborative Arts from the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California, studying with Kevin Fitz-Gerald and Dr. Alan Smith. At USC, Ms. Eder was awarded a Graduate Teaching Fellowship and the Gwendolyn Koldofsky Scholarship for all three years of her studies, as well as the Collaborative Piano Award in 2010 and 2012.

Prior to her studies at USC, Ms. Eder was a member of the piano faculty at California Institute of the Arts from the years 2000 to 2007, also working at the College of the Canyons and the California State Summer School for the Arts. She is an active performer of contemporary music and was a member of the California E.A.R. Unit, a contemporary performing ensemble, for many years. She has worked with composers such as John Cage, Louis Andriessen, Mauricio Kagel, Morton Subotnick, Elliott Carter, Stephen L. Mosko and Mel Powell. Recordings with the E.A.R. Unit include Zilver, works by Louis Andriessen (New Albion Records, 1997), and Indigenous Music, works by Stephen L. Mosko (00 Discs 39, 1998). Her most recent CD appearances are on Five Decades of Music, works by Mel Powell (Nine Winds Records, 2001) and Pope Joan by Anne LeBaron (New World Records, 2007).

Ms. Eder was active for many years in the Los Angeles area as a collaborative pianist, playing in master classes by Claus Adam, Nathaniel Rosen, Eleonore Schoenfeld, Mary Karen Clardy, Trevor Wye and Lady Jeanne Galway. She was a pianist for Jim Walker's Beyond the Master Class at the Colburn School in Los Angeles from 2009 to 2011 and was a staff pianist for the National Flute Convention in 2010.

Lorna Eder received a Bachelor of Music degree from Washington State University and a Master of Fine Arts from California Institute of the Arts. Her teachers were Istvan Nadas, Bruno Seidlhofer and Leonid Hambro.
