Minors
The Compliance Alliance committee was created in Fall 2021 to focus on the many compliance requirements at UAF. We would like to share the following compliance tip or fact with you this week.
Planning a summer camp involving minors and want to use campus housing? You will need to provide on-site adults that will be in charge of the minors staying in the halls. Learn more about the requirements for authorized adults and hosting a camp or conference with minors.

Student Loan
The Compliance Alliance committee was created in Fall 2021 to focus on the many compliance requirements at UAF. We would like to share the following compliance tip or fact with you this week.
All employees of UAF are considered agents of the university and must follow the Financial Lenders Code of Conduct. There are situations where advisors or faculty may be discussing paying for college with students and their families. In some circumstances, a student may need additional funding beyond scholarships and federal student loans. We must provide impartial advice to in regards to private student loans. The Financial Aid Office has a searchable listing of private student loans available. The full Financial Lenders Code of Conduct is also available.

Athletics

The NCAA prohibits Nanook student-athletes from receiving “extra benefits” that are outside the established rules of the NCAA. To find out more about what is and is not permissible, please review the information found in the Boosters Dos and Don’ts document on the athletics website.

Accreditation
The Compliance Alliance committee was created in Fall 2021 to focus on the many compliance requirements at UAF. We would like to share the following compliance tip or fact with you this week.
Questions about what constitutes a credit hour? According to the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and the U.S. Department of Education, “One hour of classroom or direct faculty instruction and a minimum of two hours of out of class student work each week for approximately fifteen weeks for one semester or trimester hour of credit, or ten to twelve weeks for one quarter hour of credit, or the equivalent amount of work over a different period of time; or at least an equivalent amount of work as required in paragraph (1)(i) of this definition for other academic activities as established by the institution, including laboratory work, internships, practica, studio work, and other academic work leading to the award of credit hours.”

Research

Did you know that many experiments involving genetic modification of an organism or the use of recombinant DNA technology (including CRISPR) need review by the UAF Institutional Biosafety Committee? If your research or teaching activities use any of these technologies and you are not sure whether or not it needs IBC review, contact the Office of Research Integrity.
