Visiting scholars Dr. David Stam, university librarian emeritus at Syracuse University and Dr. Deirdre Stam, director of the New York Center for Books and Reading, will present "Silent Friends: The Reading of Polar Explorers," at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002 in the Rasmuson Library Media Classroom.
The UAF community is invited for a fascinating glimpse into how eminent explorers, facing years of isolation, answered the question, "What shall I take to read?"
They will present the talk again at 7 p.m. on Wednesday Nov. 6 in the auditorium at Noel Wien Library.
Questions may be directed to Dennis Stephens, Rasmuson Library, 474-6695, or Judie Triplehorn, Mather Library, 474-7512.
