University of Alaska Fairbanks Student Government is taking to the web in December by hosting the first online elections in the history of the association and the state. The election is being made possible through the design and development of Joshua Kugler, ASUAF information service director and the data collaboration of Polar Express Office.

ASUAF anticipates holding elections on the web will boost voter turnout by the access and ease of voting online. Also, it will allow those students who traditionally don’t vote to cast their ballots; such as students studying abroad, or a larger portion of the TVC students.

"This is a great opportunity that our student government has to utilize the technology that exists now and be that flagship into the future of all elections for campuses statewide," said ASUAF Vice President Brodie Anderson.

Online elections have been conducted by many colleges in the Lower 48 with a high rate of success. The ASUAF online elections will take place Dec. 3-4 at www.asuaf.org/vote.
