Author Richard Nelson will read from his works at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2003, in the Gathering Room of the Brooks Building. Although known as a cultural anthropologist and as author of award-winning books ("The Island Within," "Shadow of the Hunter," "Heart and Blood," and "Make Prayers to the Raven"), Nelson is also a wildlife watcher, conservationist, and a subsistence hunter. This event is free and open to the public.
Poet, author and Northern Momentum Scholar John Haines will give a reading at the UA Museum on Friday, March 28, 2003, at 7 p.m. Accompanying Haines will be three of his former students, Robert Hedin, John Hildebrand and Greg Orfalea. All three are graduates of UAF’s Master of Fine Arts program in writing and have published widely in poetry and nonfiction. This event showcases four writers of note from Alaska’s interior. The reading is free and open to the public. Books will be available for signing.
