Writing Rendezvous 2003, Anchorage’s largest writing conference, is set for April 11-13 at UAA.

This year’s theme, "Writing with Courage," covers everything from writing about painful memories (Velma Wallis) to writing about your in-laws (Andromeda Romano-Lax) to "Writing for Aliens" (sci-fi author Michael Armstrong). We’ve got an outstanding keynote novelist, Alfredo Vea, author of "La Maravilla," "Gods Go Begging," and "The Silver Cloud Cafe." New York editor Rosemary Ahern will walk us through "Publishing 101," and Peggy Shumaker, an internationally known poet from Fairbanks, is our keynote poet. More than 25 writers, editors and publishers will present workshops and panel discussions.

April 1 is the last day for pre-registration, which entitles folks to adiscount. However, registration will continue right up to the opening sessions. We also have a special $10 rate for full-time students with ID.

Writing Rendezvous 2003 also includes two free public readings and receptions. Shumaker will present readings from her newest poetry book, "Underground Rivers," at 7 p.m. Friday, April 11. Vea will speak on "Why I Write" and do readings in Spanish and English at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 12. Both sessions will be held at the Wilda Marston Theater in the Z.J. Loussac Library, and will be followed by receptions.

Please check our web site, www.akcenter.com , which has the complete schedule and descriptions of each session. Registration forms with prices and registration mailing address may be downloaded from the site.
