On April 22, 2003, at 1 p.m., in the Wood Center, a group of civil engineering students will reassemble the 1993 National Champion Steel bridge.

This event is being held to offer students, staff, and faculty a glimpse into all the hard work that goes into building and assembling a steel bridge. The Student Steel Bridge Competition is very competitive. The University of Alaska Fairbanks has come away with top honors three times in the last ten years, more times then any other university. Students design, fabricate, and construct the bridge from scratch. The bridges are judged on several factors including lightness, ease of construction, and deflection (movement once weight is placed on the deck). The 1993 National Champion Steel Bridge will be available for viewing in the Wood Center until the April 25.
