Students from throughout Alaska, joined by some students from the lower 48 states, work closely with faculty and staff in small teams each engaged in a specific scientific research topic or project related to engineering/computer science. This hands on university experience includes study in the areas of chemistry, biochemistry, forensics, geology, electrical engineering, structural engineering, mechanical engineering, frozen ground engineering, mining engineering, robotics and computer science. The program is designed for students in grades 8-11+.

The program is administered by the UAF College of Science, Engineering and Mathematics includes members of the UAF community from the College of Science, Engineering and Mathematics, School of Mineral Engineering, Institute of Northern Engineering, Geophysical Institute, Alaska Volcano Observatory, Institute of Arctic Biology, and the School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, as well as faculty members from Lathrop High School and North Pole High School.

Following a full week of intensive study and focus on a select topic, student teams prepare a scientific abstract and present their team’s findings to fellow students, scientists, parents and guests at a closing day colloquium.
