The Department of Computing and Communications has contacted HP and have worked with their engineers to look over the UAF system.
HP support staff have made a number of suggestions for improving e-mail performance, including tuning recommendations for memory allocation and configuration, Advanced File System and network subsystems. Engineers have also recommended an upgrade of the Tru64 patch kit, which was complete Oct. 13.
DC&C also gzip’d a large number of large Inboxes and moved to temp. These Inboxes were maxed-out at 25MB and appeared to have no recent use. Additionally, more than 5000 Inboxes were removed for personnel who had accounts created by automatic procedures.
There are still a large number of very large Inboxes. More than 120 users have Inboxes that are 20 MB or larger and there are still a number of users who have their e-mail clients are checking their mail once a minute or more often.
