In an effort to encourage the Alaska Legislature to delegate a 5 percent increase to University funding, UA students from across the state have constructed, and built a 15 foot puzzle in the shape of Alaska. Coordinated by the UA Coalition of Student Leaders, the puzzle is constructed of 13 pieces with 11 pieces delegated to each UA campus statewide. To inspire legislature support, each puzzle piece will be sent to their designated campus where student leaders will gain signatures from student and alumni supporting the recognition. The remaining two pieces specify the state seal and campaign slogan "5% Fits," and "Get Connected" which spirals through the puzzle, illustrating the connection of UA campuses.

The Coalition is a statewide student association representing over 30,000 students at UA campuses. Students have been important advocates for the University in years past and continue to play a key role in the campaign for full funding.

"The University of Alaska is an institution that serves the entire state," said Thom Walker, Speaker of the Coalition of Student Leaders. "This campaign will not only generate support for the university budget, but also make our students more aware of the statewide impact of our university system."
