The children of George and MinZÿ Mikami established this scholarship in honor of their parents. The purpose of this award is to recognize one male and one female sophomore or junior with sound moral character in any field of study and who plans on working in Alaska after graduation. This person must be in the top 25 percent of his/her class with a minimum 3.0 grade point average. This is a $10,000 prize for each recipient, and thus is one of our most prestigious scholarships worthy of your careful consideration.

Nominations will be accepted until April 15, 2004. Nominations should include a statement of the recipient’s moral character and the reasons for their nomination.

After nominations are received, we will check to ensure each student meets selection criteria and narrow it down to five females and five males. Each of those students will then be contacted and notified that they are being considered for this award. We will request an essay describing what sound moral character means to them and why they should be considered for this generous scholarship award. Final selection will be made by Chancellor Lind and Provost Reichardt.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Kim Davis or scholarship coordinator, Naomi Horne.
