The Office of Multicultural Affairs, the Department of Foreign Language, and the Art Department are co-sponsoring Japan Day In Fairbanks, Saturday, March 27, 2004. The celebration includes 150 years of United States-Japan collaboration and 100 years of Fairbanks, Alaska-Japan collaboration.

A poster contest is open to all individuals residing in Alaska. First prize is $70 cash, a photograph and interview included in the Monbetsu Newspaper, the Anchorage Consulate General Newsletter, the Fairbanks News-Miner and the Sun Star.

Exhibits,11 a.m.-6 p.m., in Wood Center Conference Rooms
Alaska Statewide Japanese Speech and Skit Contest, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Taiko Contest, 2-3 p.m., Tomodachi Daiko (Traditional Japanese Drumming)
Taiko Workshop, 3-4 p.m.
UA Museum/campus tour, 3-4 p.m.
Dinner, 4-6 p.m., Adult $10.00; under 12 Yrs. $7.00; under 3 Yrs. free
Piano Concert 6:30-8 p.m. Davis Hall, General Admission $10.00; Students $6.00

The Award Ceremony and other performances are to be held during dinner.

Other contests include: the Japanese Speech Contest, Karaoke, and traditional Japanese drumming. We are soliciting entries to the various contests from all over Alaska. There will also be a piano concert with lecture to introduce Japanese composers.
