The University of Alaska Press has just published a landmark biography of Ernest Gruening, Alaska territorial governor and U.S. senator, written by Claus-M. Naske. Naske is professor emeritus of history at UAF and has published extensively on the twentieth-century political history of the state. This volume covers the tenure of Gruening as governor, both before and after statehood, as well as his role in the Vietnam conflict and as an advocate for Alaska Native rights.
