Want to learn about mountain ecosystems? The Yellowstone Field Course may be just for you.

The UAF West Coast and Polar Regions Undersea Research Center will sponsor two UAF students to participate in the summer 2005 Yellowstone Field Course.

The course will cover (1) the physical origins of the Yellowstone National Park region, (2) the organization and function of the major Yellowstone ecosystems, and (3) philosophical, economic, political, and legal issues that arise in contemplating the future of the Yellowstone region.

The course is part of the University of Pittsburgh (UP) BIOSC 0740 Yellowstone Field Course. All course-related expenses provided by UAF and UP.

Covered expenses include round-trip transportation to the K-Z Ranch near Cody, Wyoming, as well as tuition, room and board, and course-related materials.

The Yellowstone Field Course is part of an annual exchange of students between UAF and the University of Pittsburgh. While UAF students learn about the Rocky Mountains, UP students travel to the UAF-operated Kasitsna Bay Laboratory just outside Homer, Alaska, to learn about Alaska’s marine ecosystem.

Applications to participate in the Yellowstone Field Course are due January 28, 2005, and must be turned in to Dana Kapla, dkapla@ims.uaf.edu, at the UAF West Coast and Polar Regions Undersea Research Center in Room 213 of the O’Neill Bldg., on the UAF West Ridge, 907-474-5870.

To apply or learn more, visit the Yellowstone Field Course, or contact Dr. Brenda Konar, BKonar@ims.uaf.edu, 907-474-5028.
