Linda Beach is a quilt artist for whom the beauty of Alaska and love of nature has provided inspirational direction. Amassing a variety of fabrics from different eras and various sources, she enjoys interpreting the images she sees through the medium of cloth. The possibilities and limitations of the piecing process used in creating a quilt is part of the enjoyment, fabric giving a tactile pleasure that you don’t find with paint.

Linda is a Professional Artist member of Studio Art Quilts Associates . She has lived in Alaska 11 years and currently resides in Chugiak. Her quilts can be found in numerous private and public collections, including the Department of Veteran Affairs, Alaska VA Healthcare System and Regional Office and the Alaska Court System. She has also been the recipient of several awards, including Honorable Mention, "Earth, Fire & Fibre XXIV, Alaska Biennial Craft Exhibition, Anchorage Museum of History and Art.

"Postcard from Ketchikan" was inspired by a vacation photo from an Inside Passage cruise taken by Linda’s dad. Linda was drawn to the shapes and angles created by the boardwalk and foundation pilings for the buildings. This quilt took approximately three weeks to complete. Linda’s technique is to machine piece, therefore every template must be traced then cut out of the fabric chosen. Separate pieces are then sewn to create the quilt top, layered with cotton batting and backing fabric and machine quilted.

Linda will sign posters of her quilt at a First Friday event, March 4 from Noon to 7 p.m. at Denali State Bank, Golden Heart Branch, located at 1989 Airport Way in Fairbanks.
