The People’s Endowment, established at the UA Foundation in 1986, was initiated by Carla Helfferich as her winning entry in the Incentive Awards Program. Its intent is to provide a source of funds for projects that will improve UAF but would likely remain unfunded due to institutional priorities. Grants are used for special projects or to fill critical need at UAF. Funds for this endowment are solicited from faculty and staff; employees are encouraged to participate in the Power and Pride from Within employee campaign by directing a gift to the People’s Endowment or other Foundation funds.
This year’s grants were awarded to: Thomas M. Walker, Associated Students of UAF, $3,500 for the Hess Village and Married Housing Curbside Recycling Program; Dr. Yoko Collier-Sanuki, Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, $2,500 to participate in the CARLA Summer Institute workshop, äóìMaximizing Study Abroad: Teaching Strategies for Language and Culture Learning and Useäó?; Coral C. Howe, Large Animal Research Station, Institute of Arctic Biology, $3,500 to bring electrical power to the Science Education Outreach Area at LARS; and Dr. Jaunelle Celaire, Music Department, $3,000 to send students to compete in the National Association of Teachers of Singing voice competition.
