Bearfoot Bluegrass will perform a free outdoor concert on the UAF Campus at the Beluga Field (soccer field at the SRC) Saturday, June 4, at 6 p.m. The concert is sponsored by KUAC 89.9 FM, ASUAF Concert Board, Fairbanks Folk Fest and UAF Student Activities Office.
Bearfoot Bluegrass is a fast rising, young acoustic band from Cordova, Alaska. Their three part harmonies can range from the high lonesome songs of Bill Monroe to originals written by band members. Instrumentally, they are driven by fast picking mandolin and guitar, accented by twin fiddles, and held down by solid acoustic bass work.
After forming in 1999, the band went on to play concerts and festival throughout Alaska and the Yukon as well as the Wintergrass and Grass Valley festivals.
During the summer of 2001, the band entered the Telluride Bluegrass Festival Band Competition, an honor which they won. Other notable winners of this contest include Nickel Creek and the Dixie Chicks. During the summer of 2001, the group held the stage with some of the finest bluegrass players in the country. People are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets to the UAF concert, and to please leave dogs and alcohol at home.
