Anita Hartmann, director of the Office for Research Development at UAF College of Liberal Arts has achieved national certification as a research administration. The designation of certified research administrator, CRA, means that an individual has been examined by an independent professional organization, the Research Administrators Certification Council, and has demonstrated knowledge of the information necessary for a person to be a professional research or sponsored programs administrator.
The council is a private, non-profit organization, and consists of representatives from a wide variety of settings such as institutions of higher education, hospitals, private businesses, research institutes and foundations, governmental organizations and national professional organizations.
Candidates applying to sit for the CRA credentialing examination must possess, at minimum, a bacheloräó»s degree and three years of substantial involvement in research or sponsored programs administration either in a sponsoring or recipient organization. The credentialing examination is based on the counciläó»s äóìBody of Knowledgeäó?, and covers four broad areas: Project Development and Administration, Legal Requirements and Sponsor Interface, Financial Management, and General Management.
Hartmann, is a member of the Society of Research Administrators International, and earned a Ph.D. in neuroscience in 1993. She has served as the Director of the College of Liberal Arts Office for Research Development since 2000. In FY05 alone, the College of Liberal Arts faculty prepared and submitted 78 new proposals seeking over $30 million in new funding for sponsored research and creative scholarship.
