For more than a dozen students, staff and faculty at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, spring break meant a week of service.

A team organized by the UAF Leadership Program traveled to San Francisco during spring break to do conservation work for the Golden Gate National Parks. The excursion was part of the Leadership Program’s pilot Alternative Spring Break project.

Team members will speak about their experience during an exhibition May 4 at 7:30 p.m. at the Wood Center Carol Brown Ballroom.

During the trip, team members worked to rebuild flooded trails, remove invasive species and restore historical gardens on Alcatraz.

The Alternative Spring Break Exhibition will offer a chance for the campus community and the public to learn how to get involved in future service projects, either as a participant or community supporter. The presentation will be followed by refreshments and an opportunity to socialize with participants.
