The UAF College of Natural Science and Mathematics announces graduate and undergraduate research fellowship opportunities for K-12 Teaching Assistants Sharing Knowledge (TASK) in Alaska. Application deadline is June 15, 2006.

This fellowship is open to full-time graduate and undergraduate students in science, math/statistics, computer science or engineering. Fellows are assigned to an elementary or secondary school for a semester or academic year and work with students and teachers at the school. Fellows are also encouraged to participate in after-school programs and extracurricular activities such as Math Counts, Lego robotics, Future Farmers of America, the FIRST program and the Alaska Statewide High School Science Symposium.

Undergraduates must have earned at least 60 credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in their disciplines and graduate students must be full time. Each applicant must be a U.S. citizen, national or permanent resident.

Interested students should submit the TASK application form, along with a statement of one page or less explaining their interest in the program, their goals for the fellowship, their philosophies of teaching, previous K-12 outreach experiences and their future career plans. Applicants should also submit a vita, official or unofficial transcript(s), and a letter of recommendation from a faculty member who can address the potential for success in this program. Graduate fellows receive $30,000 per 12-month fellowship plus tuition support and undergraduate fellows receive $833 per month plus possible tuition support.
