Edward D. Hall, director of the Spinal Cord and Brain Injury Research Center at the University of Kentucky Medical Center will present a one-hour seminar, "Present and Future Treatment of Acute Spinal Cord Injury," Monday, Aug. 28, 2006 at 7 p.m. in Schaible Auditorium.

The seminar is open to anyone interested in learning more about spinal cord injuries and their effects. The seminar is sponsored by UAF Specialized Neuroscience Research Program.

The Spinal Cord and Brain Injury Research Center is focused upon understanding the injury process that follows trauma to the brain or spinal cord. In addition, Hall studies gender differences in post-traumatic brain damage and the mechanics of estrogen-mediated neuroprotection.

Hall received a doctorate in neuropharmacology from the Cornell University Graduate School of Medical Sciences in 1976. He is considered an authority on the pathophysiology of acute neurological injury, particularly the role of reactive oxygen mechanisms and the design and development of antioxidant neuroprotective drugs.
