The University of Alaska Fairbanks campus is a terrific venue for outdoor activities. We encourage staff, faculty, students and others to enjoy the ski and walking trails, the bike paths and landscaping. Many people also enjoy having their pets accompany them during these activities. Several incidents involving pets on campus in the past year warrant a reminder that UAF has a policy regarding pets on campus. Following are the recent incidents, which support the need for the policy:
äó¢ a report of an unleashed dog, though it was accompanied by its owner, attacking
other pets
äó¢ numerous reports of conflicts and injuries between trail users and loose pets
äó¢ instances of pet owners not cleaning up after their animals and causing damage
to classrooms and offices
The policy, consistent with the policies of the Fairbanks North Star Borough, states that pets must be leashed and are not allowed in campus buildings. An informational flier is available for download here and the full policy is available online. Please help us keep our campus clean and safe.
