John Duhamel has been hired to implement the first phase of the HR redesign recommended by HR consultant Segal-Sibson.

Duhamel will lead the effort to assess HR processes in areas such as HR operations, payroll, data management, HR services at both statewide and at UAF, along with processes associated with employee benefits, labor and employee relations, and classification and compensation.

During the HR redesign project, he will facilitate the advisory committees and receive continual input from campus and statewide stakeholders as design features are being reviewed. John will report to Jim Johnsen, vice president for administration, but will work closely with Beth Behner chief HR officer at statewide and Ro Bailey, vice chancellor for administration as the redesign process proceeds. His office is located in the Administrative Services Building on College Road.

Duhamel specialized in logistics during a 20-year Air Force career. He graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1979 with a degree in engineering services and he has earned two masteräó»s degrees from Golden Gate University, in public administration and in business administration. After retiring as a lieutenant colonel in 1999, he founded and served as chief operating officer of three subsidiaries for a Doyon-area village corporation, Käó»oyitläó»otsäó»ina Ltd. One of the subsidiaries he founded employs 400 people who maintain government buildings and facilities across the United States.

Duhamel is from New Hampshire and describes himself as a äóìcold weather kind of guy.äó? He likes outdoor activities, including cross-country skiing, and he jumped at the chance to move his family to Alaska in 1995 for his last active duty station. After he retired, no one in his family wanted to leave, he says.
