Northern Lights Featured on AlaskaOne Poster for First Time AlaskaOne, the public television network for KUAC Fairbanks, KYUK Bethel and KTOO Juneau, kicked off its annual Spring Television Fundraiser this week. A poster is selected each year to benefit the mission of public broadcasting.

North Pole artist Bud Kuenzliäó»s Arc däó» Chena Lakes was selected as AlaskaOneäó»s 2007 poster. This spectacular image features the Northern Lights, a first for the 24-year historical poster series. Kuenzli will sign posters at a reception on Saturday, March 10 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at New Horizons Gallery located at 519 First Avenue in Fairbanks.

It is rare to capture the Aurora Borealis when waters are not frozen, and in this stunning photograph the Northern Lights reflect on the surface of Chena Lakes. Fairbanksäó» city lights are illuminated on the horizon and the Big Dipper is seen sparkling in the sky.

Kuenzli is a long-time resident of North Pole, having moved to the area in 1985 after teaching in rural Alaska. His interest in photography began more than 40 years ago with the purchase of a single lens reflex camera. His recent retirement from teaching has allowed him to turn a long-time hobby into a profession. äóìThe same rewards and reasons that we live in Alaska are reflected in photography,äó? says Kuenzli. äóìThere is an unparalleled access to beautiful imagery.äó?

The poster serves as a thank-you gift to people who have made at least a $50 contribution to AlaskaOne during the Spring Membership Campaign, Saturday, March 2 through Sunday, March 12. The pledge drive has an eleven-day goal of $55,000. Pledges can be made by calling 907.474.7491 or online at www.alaskaone.org.
