Akasofu honored at building dedication

Syun-Ichi Akasofu unveils a plaque hanging in the building that now bears his name during a ceremony April 27 on the Fairbanks campus. The University of Alaska Board of Regents voted to honor Akasofu by naming the building that houses the International Arctic Research Center the Syun-Ichi Akasofu Building. Akasofu, who is retiring from the university after more than 40 years, was the driving force behind the establishment of the research center, supported by the governments of the U.S. and Japan, and has served as its director since 1999.
