The University of Alaska Fairbanks will host a two-day forum to discuss current and future campus housing facilities and options to meet student needs. More than 60 contractors, developers and financial offices have been invited to participate.

"Offering appropriate and adequate housing to our student population is a high priority at the university," said Linda Zanazzo, of UAF Facilities Services. "That’s why we’re looking at all of our options."

During the 2001/2002 school year, approximately 5,000 students attended the UAF campus with more than 1,300 full-time students living on campus. Occupancy rates ranged from 92 100 percent last year and with a projected increase in enrollment, on-campus housing will be insufficient. The two-day forum will take place at the Hess Recreation Center, 732 Yukon Drive on the UAF campus, on Tuesday, July 30 from 9 a.m. 4 p.m. and Wednesday, July 31 from 9 a.m. noon. The workshop will include a tour of UAF’s existing housing units and open discussions on UAF’s housing demands, possible solutions and how to craft a housing contract or Request for Proposals that would be attractive to consultants, developers or contractors while addressing possible private business partner concerns.
