The UAF School of Management welcomes new faculty member Craig Wisen, Ph.D., CFA. Wisen joins UAF as associate professor of finance in the Department of Business Administration.
Wisen received his Ph.D. from Indiana University, after completing a thesis involving empirical analysis that documented bias associated with new mutual fund returns.
He will teach a variety of finance courses including Financial Statement Analysis and Portfolio Management. Wisen will also supervise the UAF Student Investment Fund. The UAF Student Investment Fund is a cross between a class and an investment club and is comprised of upper-division and graduate students.
Wisen’s investment career began with trading Morgan silver dollars at the age of ten. Previous to his doctorate work, Craig worked in the private section heading up operations of an asset management company. Wisen is looking forward to the move to academics.
"After working in the private sector for six years I realized that maximizing earnings did not necessarily maximize professional satisfaction," said Wisen. "I felt that, for me, the purest form of financial analysis required investing in a Ph.D."
