The University of Alaska Museum is looking for dynamic volunteers to lead docent programs for schoolchildren.

Each year, more than 70 percent of Fairbanks K-6 students visit the University of Alaska Museum with their classes, exploring the exhibits and using hands-on collection to learn about Alaska’s Native cultures, the aurora and much more.

Their guides for this museum experience are the museum’s volunteer teaching docents. Whether they are retired schoolteachers with decades of teaching experience or UAF students earning class credit, they all have one thing in common they love working with kids. Each spring and fall, the museum offers a docent training program for new and returning docents. Anyone interested in working with kids at the museum is invited to attend no prior teaching experience is necessary. The free training runs weekdays Sept. 3 - 13, from 9 a.m. to noon daily.
