Success for University of Alaska Fairbanks volleyball players isn’t limited to the court. Three team members have been named to the 2002 Great Northwest Athletic Conference’s All-Academic Team. Jamie Schanback, Candice Smith and Mallory Bergstrom met the criteria set forth by the GNAC. Honorees must have at least a 3.2 grade point average and must have played for at least one year for the Nanooks.

All three players are key parts of the Nanook success this year, having played in all 81 games so far. Schanback, a senior, is majoring in foreign languages and plans to go to Spain for the spring semester through a UAF exchange program. She leads the team in digs, digs per game and service aces. Smith, a social anthropology/art history major, is a junior this year and is second on the team in kills, kills per game and total blocks. Sophomore Mallory Bergstrom, majoring in biology, leads the team in kills, kills per game, total attacks and is second on the team in digs.
