Fairbanks, Alaska The Alaska Chamber Chorale has been invited to perform at the national convention of the American Choral Directors Association in New York City, Feb. 12 -15, 2003. The invitation was the result of a highly competitive process resulting in only 41 choirs from the U.S. and Canada being selected to perform out of hundreds of ensembles that auditioned.

"This invitation places the chorale in a very select group of highly accomplished choirs and is considered the ’Academy Award’ of the choral world," said Chorale Director Marvilla Davis.

More than 6000 choral conductors and directors will attend the conference. The chorale was chosen to sing a concert at St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Wednesday, Feb. 12. The ensemble will also be featured in the December issue of "Choral Journal."

The Chorale was founded in 1991 and is dedicated to the learning and performing of quality a cappella choral music. The 32-voice ensemble is comprised of auditioned singers from both UAF and the community of Fairbanks from ages 17 to 65 and includes undergraduate and graduate students, staff and community members. The chorale is offered as a music course at UAF and all of the members take it for credit.

Note to Editors: Photo opportunities will be available in early December during rehearsals Dec. 5, 7, 10 and 11 in preparation for the upcoming Christmas concert "Carols of the Ages." The concert will take place at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12 at the Davis Concert Hall on the UAF campus.
