Schwartz Selected as UAF Athletic Director

Fairbanks Special Assistant to the Chancellor for Athletics Jake Poole has named Dr. Corene "Cory" Schwartz the next director of athletics and recreation at UAF.

"We are pleased that a person of Dr. Schwartz’s caliber applied for this position and look forward to working with her as our new athletic director," Poole said.

Schwartz is expected to arrive in Fairbanks to start her new position in mid-January 2003.

Schwartz is currently the associate athletic director of athletics for Evansville University in Indiana. Prior to being at Evansville, Schwartz served as director of student-athlete academic and support services at Colorado State University and as athletic academic counselor from the University of Wyoming. Schwartz received her master’s degree in physical education from the University of North Dakota and her doctorate in adult, community and higher education from Montana State University.

"Dr. Schwartz’s experience and current involvement with NCAA procedures, gender equity, athletic compliance and academic support, as well as her overall background in university athletics, make her an ideal fit for UAF," said Poole. "We are confident that her skills and enthusiasm will benefit UAF as we take Nanook athletics to the next level."
