Rohan Gunaratna, author of "Inside Al Qaeda: Network of Terror," will speak at the University of Alaska Fairbanks April 30, 2003. His lecture, "Post 9/11 Trajectory of Al Qaeda" will take place from 7-9 p.m. in the Wood Center Carol Brown Ballroom.

Gunaratna is a professor at the University of St. Andrews Center for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence and the former principal investigator for the United Nations’ terrorism prevention branch. He has been called the world’s top expert on Al Qaeda.

Gunaratna’s visit is sponsored by the Liberal Education and Global Citizenship: The Arts of Democracy project team. Funding for the visit comes from the Association of American Colleges and Universities Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education in the U.S. Deptartment of Education, the President Hamilton’s Special Projects Fund and the University of Alaska Foundation.

UAF’s project team is lead by Norm Swazo, professor of philosophy. Members include: George Charles, Alaska Native studies; Mary Ehlrander, northern studies and history; Karen Erickson, political science; David Koester, anthropology; and Joy Morrison, UAF faculty development.
