Traffic modifications for the new Thompson Drive intersection on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus will run through July 11. The changes will affect traffic from the west end of the Patty Center extending past the west entrance of campus at West Tanana and up Tanana Loop. The roadway will narrow to one lane from 7 a.m.-5:30 p.m. leading to delays, including delays to the shuttle service to West Ridge. Tanana Loop will revert to two lanes from 5:30 p.m.-7 a.m.
The work will raise the existing road to match the grade for the new roundabout intersection. Pedestrians and bicyclists are urged to use extreme caution.
The new access from Geist and Loftus Roads will intersect with Tanana Loop and will serve as a main entrance to campus. The Department of Transportation project is scheduled for completion in 2005. It’s named Thompson Drive in honor of the late Native leader Morris Thompson and his family.
