Israeli Consul General to Speak at UAF

Yossi Amrani, Israeli’s consul general for the Pacific Northwest Region, will speak at the University of Alaska Fairbanks June 30, 2003. His lecture, "Foreign Policy Challenges the Middle East After Iraq," will take place at noon in the Schaible Auditorium. Consul General Amrani joined the Israeli Foreign Ministry in 1983 and began his tour of duty at the Israeli Consulate in San Francisco in August 2000. Prior to his appointment as consul general, Amrani served as minister of political affairs at the Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C., from 1998 to 2000. From 1996 to 1998, he held the position of director of coordination and worked as a speechwriter for the Israeli minister of foreign affairs.

Amrani was a member of the Israeli negotiation team for the Interim Agreement with the Palestinian Authority in 1995. Prior to that, he was a foreign policy advisor to the president of Israel in 1994 and worked as a bureau chief of the ambassador’s office at the Israeli Embassy in Washington from 1988 to 1993.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in general and Jewish history from Haifa University and a master’s degree in general history and American Jewish history from the Hebrew University.

Amrani will speak to the Congregation Or HaTzafon at 1744 Aurora Drive, June 30 at 6 p.m. and to the Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce general membership luncheon at the Westmark Hotel on Tuesday, July 1, at noon.
