KUAC and Native Voice Communications have announced that the production of nationally broadcast Independent Native News will take place at the KUAC broadcast facility at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. KUAC news staff began producing the award-winning daily radio newscast this week. Longtime anchor Nellie Moore will continue to host the program from Anchorage.
"The rapid growth of INN has led us to search for a radio station home," said Moore. "KUAC’s relationship with the journalism department at UAF will make INN a stronger product, helping to fulfill our commitment to our listeners, including our newest station, WBAI in New York City."
INN has been produced by Native Voice Communications in Anchorage for the past three years and is heard on more than 60 stations in the U.S. and Canada. The five-minute newscast is known for its innovative use of technology and is distributed free to stations via the Internet.
"We are pleased to have the opportunity to produce this highly respected news program," said Greg Petrowich, KUAC general manager. "It is a perfect fit, both for KUAC and the university. NVC has created a program that serves a national programming need and we look forward to continuing this important service while exploring other relevant opportunities."
INN can be heard weeknights at 5:30 p.m. on KUAC 89.9 FM.
