The opening student enrollment this fall at the University of Alaska Fairbanks is up more than 7 percent on the Fairbanks and Tanana Valley campuses, resulting in one of the highest opening enrollments in the university’s history. Students walking on campusAlthough final figures won’t be available until January, early predictions indicate that by the end of this semester overall enrollment at UAF and its rural campuses will top the record 1994 closing enrollment of 9,416 students.

"For the first time ever we’re closing in on 10,000 students," said UAF Chancellor Marshall Lind. "We’re providing the quality education our students expect to receive."

There are 8,736 students enrolled at the opening freeze and an increase of 9.9 percent in the number of credits students are taking, which translates into a student full-time equivalent (FTE) increase of 10 percent.

"The enrollments here in Fairbanks are excellent just what we’ve predicted they would be," said Claudia Clark, UAF’s dean of enrollment management. "Rural campuses are showing even more dramatic gains."

TVC has experienced increases in many of its programs in the past few years including allied health, applied business and information technology.

TVC Director Jake Poole and Lind will highlight enrollment and workforce development as part of their presentation at the Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce membership l

uncheon today at noon in the Westmark Gold Room.
