KUAC FM/TV Wins Six Goldie Awards

KUAC FM/TV received top honors in six categories at the 2003 Alaska Broadcasters Association Annual Convention Oct. 24.

Two divisions of awards are presented at the annual conference in Anchorage. Division 1 awards for television and radio go to broadcast outlets in the Anchorage area. Division 2 awards are presented to TV and radio stations outside Anchorage.

In the Division 2 category, KUAC FM news reporter Sarah Neal won the award for Radio News Story with her report, "West Nile Update." Libby Casey, also a KUAC FM reporter, received top honors for the Radio Sports News Story Series with her coverage of the 2003 Yukon Quest. Reporter Russ Kelly and producer Theresa Bakker won the Radio Breaking News Story for their coverage of the Salcha floods.

On the television side of the house, KUAC producer Mark Cosson and photographer Charles Newman received a nod for TV Public Affairs Program for "Fishlift: The Recovery of an Ichthyosaur." Promotions coordinator Carole Chambers, producer and editor Aaron Elterman and videographer Paul Holyfield won the TV Promotional Package category for Alaska One Spring Festival 2003.

KUAC received the ultimate recognition with the award for TV Uniquely Alaskan Program for "If We Dance: The Story of the Midnight Sun Intertribal Powwow," produced by Aaron Elterman, producer/videographer/editor; Mark Cosson, videographer; and Marie Mitchell and Al Geist, field producers
