The University of Alaska has announced that a tentative agreement for a new three-year labor contract was reached last week with representatives of Alaska Higher Education Crafts & Trades Employees, Local 6070, APEP/AFT (AFL-CIO).

The union represents 280 skilled maintenance, trades and crafts employees at all of the university’s campuses statewide.

On announcing the agreement, University President Mark Hamilton said, "This was a model negotiation not just because it meets the needs both of the university and these valuable employees, but because the negotiation process was handled in a very professional and respectful manner."

Union President Leslie Teders said, "I am very pleased that the negotiators on both sides of the table worked to address all of the issues. In cooperating and listening to each other they were able to attain a tentative agreement prior to the expiration of our current contract."

The agreement is subject to ratification by union members and subsequent approval by the Board of Regents. Monetary terms of the contract are also subject to approval by the Legislature. Details of the agreement will be available after union ratification.
