Moose living near the University of Alaska Fairbanks often migrate through campus. This migration prompts a warning about the dangers of encounters with wild animals.

Moose habitat sign on campusCampus residents or visitors should not attempt to feed moose or try to approach the animals. Moose can be easily frightened and have been known to charge without notice.

A cow moose can be especially dangerous when trying to protect her offspring.

If you see a moose on campus, please call the UAF Police Department. Campus police, along with officials from the Department of Fish and Game, have been encouraging moose to move on to browsing areas off-campus by using emergency response vehicles equipped with sirens and lights.

Motorists should also use caution while traveling in the area.
