KUAC-TV/Alaska One poster design announced

Artist David Rosenthal’s "Miles Glaciers" had been selected as KUAC/Alaska One’s 21st annual poster design. Each year a poster is selected in celebration of the station’s Spring Membership Drive and to benefit the mission of public broadcasting.

The poster will serve as a thank-you gift to people who have made a contribution to KUAC/Alaska One during the Spring Membership Campaign, Saturday, March 6 through Sunday, March 21. All new and renewing members at $50 and above receive a poster.

David Rosenthal is a well known painter of Alaskan, Arctic and Antarctic landscapes. He participated in the National Science Foundation Antarctic Artist and Writer Program as artist in residence at the McMurdo Station in the summer of 1993-94 and during the winter of 1996.

David has participated in the efforts of the Artists for Nature Foundation, an organization based in the Netherlands and consisting of artists dedicated to promoting, through their work, the conservation of natural and historical landscapes around the globe. Among their focus sites is the Copper River Delta region in Alaska, where David lives in Cordova.

In describing his work he says "I have always had a great affinity for nature. I especially like the remote cold places like Alaska where nature can be seen with out the clutter of the human presence. My painting of nature and landscape began as a natural desire to share the beauty I see in nature. Thirty years later I am still simply trying to depict the natural world as I see it. Working from drawings done in the field, I try to recreate the visual experience of looking at beautiful landscape in a way that is more real to our perceptions then a photograph."

This landscape painting depicts a startling, colorful and awesome view of Miles Glacier, which is located in the Chugach Mountains, in South Alaska.

David will sign posters of his painting on Saturday, March 6 from noon-3 p.m. at Spenard Builders Supply located at 2460 Phillips Field Road in Fairbanks.

This is not the first tie to the University for this very special artist. David’s paintings are also hanging in the Butrovich Building on the UAF campus and he is scheduled to be an instructor in landscape painting for the 2004 UAF Summer Sessions.
