IARC faculty member wins $300,000 award

Harper Simmons of UAF’s International Arctic Research Center is the recipient of the prestigious Office of Naval Research (ONR) Young Investigator Program Award for his proposal "A Study of Internal Wave Generation, Evolution, and Propagation in a Global Baroclinic Ocean Model". The award is $300,000 over three years.

In the words of ONR, "the Young Investigator Program (YIP) seeks to identify and support academic scientists and engineers who have received Ph.D. or equivalent degrees within the last five years and who show exceptional promise for doing creative research. The objectives of this program are to attract outstanding faculty to the Department of the Navy’s research program, to support their research, and to encourage their teaching and research careers."
